Ceres Summer School 2017: Update
The 2017 edition of the CERES Summer School to be held at Janskerkhof 03 Utrecht University, in a few days’ time (22 June 2017) is on course and all preparations have been finalized. The organizing Committee is excited, ready for the event and looks forward to seeing all the participants this Thursday. To date a total of 66 presenters and participants have confirmed their attendance through the online registration system which closed on 15 June 2017. This year’s opening and closing remarks will be given by the current CERES Director Dr Maarten Bavinck from the University of Amsterdam.
As part of the programme, Professor Henning Melber will give the key note address entitled “Mapping the SDG Agenda”. Henning Melber is the incoming European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI) President, Senior Adviser and Director Emeritus, Dag Hammarskjold Foundation.
Professor Thea Hilhorst from the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) will hold a plenary session on research security entitled “Protection is crucial” and “Don’t overdo it.” Thea Hilhorst is a specialist in Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction.
Using the theme “Engaging with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Gaps, Opportunities and Challenges”, the Organising Committee has categorised the presentations for the school into four areas as follow:
- Human Welfare and Development
- Economic Growth and Development
- Environmental and Climate Management
- Governance, Social Justice and Cooperation
As an organising Committee, we are looking forward to an engaging, thought provoking and stimulating 2017 edition of the CERES Summer School. It is our hope and belief that all our participants will have something to take home with them from the summer since learning is an ongoing activity.
